Awhile back someone asked me what I planned to read in 2020. I never thought about a plan of intention for the year with my reading list. If I set goals it is usually something fitness or health-related and not for leisure activity.

So far all of my goals for 2020 are pretty leisurely. Throw more crappy dinner parties, spend less money, and read more books. See how I didn’t add any quantitative goals? With no real way to measure outcomes, the odds are in my favor. (This is obviously NOT a self-help blog).

BUT now that I am thinking about it, my competitive nature is showing itself. If I read 31.5 books this year surely I can beat that right? Winning is winning even if you are beating a record you hold. And I like to win.

So maybe I will get quantitative.

I WILL READ 40 BOOKS IN 2020. On this list are some books from my Goodreads list, books that were personally recommended by people I admire, and some self-help books (since I obviously need help).

  1. Fair Play- Eve Rodsky

2. The Boston Girl-Anita Diamant

3. The Tattooist of Auschwitz- Heather Morris

4. Cilka’s Journey- Heather Morris

5. The Alice Network-Kate Quinn

6. Daring Greatly- Brene Brown

7. Zen and Art of Motorcycle Maintenance-Robert Pirsig

8. The Gifts of Imperfection-Brene Brown

9. The Gone Dead-Chanelle Benz

10. High Preformance Habits- Brendon Burchard

11. Daisy Jones and the Six- Taylor Jenkins Reid

12. Station 11- Emily St. John Mandel

13. All the Bright Places- Jennifer Niven

14. The Reckless Oath We Made- Bryn Greenwood

15. The Giver of Stars- Jojo Moyes

As you can see, there are not 40 books on this list. I am leaving some open spaces to read whatever I want whenever I want. I am going to let the books come to me. Reading shouldn’t feel like a chore so I am going to put my goal out there and let those not on the list find me. Like kismet.

If you feel passionate about a book I should read in 2020, hit me up. I’ll entertain it.

Do you have a reading goal for 2020?

Love,

Stef
